Every mind is a KURKSHETRA " Battlefield", constantly in a state of conflict arising out of option /choice. The choice of " to do" or " not to do". Animals have no conflict " should I be a veg or be a non- veg"; " Should I marry or not".
With the advantage of developed mind comes the flip side of unpredictability... The unpredictability of the mood, thoughts, mind. This unpredictability even leads to one being unable to relate to oneself. Sometimes we try to do different things, live different lifestyles, practice meditations, healing, jobs just to sometimes get away from the ailing fundamental conflict.
The Other day a friend mentioned on Facebook- " A rich man bargaining with a vendor standing in scorching heat for 5 rs. vs. a beggar who shared his half roti with a dog" The Question being- WHO IS RICHER... Only humans are capable of having such complex thought processes and ever engaging perception- A Dog for once would'nt have thought the beggar is doing a kind deed. This is again due to "Human Mind" every battling in thoughts and perception. This is also one of the example of constantly " WANTING" to enrich the mind and knowledge... The constant in the mind " I WANT" " I WANT".
The Bhagavad Gita Says we all strive to be different in some ways-- either by wanting material things, or by wanting knowledge or by wanting love or by wanting God or by wanting something or the other. All this "WANT" is just a mean to be comfortable --- i.e comfortable to the mind. This comfortable levels are also derived by comparisons. Comparisons of wanting things and leaving things all for the comfort of the mind.It is very interesting how to can be related to the five of wands of mostly unwanted battles.
For years I thought escapism is the best route, escape to another country, escape to another want... fortunately the truth is ---escape is just running from oneself or rather constant want or efforts to comfort the mind.
Nothing literally nothing can be changed within if the root cause is not solved for good- INADEQUACY OF SELF is the Human Problem.
